PROVEN CONSERVATIVE LEADERSHIP

IDAHO STRONG. IDAHO FIRST.

Jim Guthrie for Idaho Senate

Meet Jim

I am Jim Guthrie, a lifelong Idahoan born and raised in Pocatello, where I graduated from Marsh Valley High School. A proud Republican representing Senate District 28

I represent Power, Franklin and part of Bannock Counties with a lifelong commitment to public service and Idaho’s agricultural heritage.

As a rancher and business owner in McCammon, I’ve served on the Marsh Valley School District Board, as a Bannock County Commissioner, and in the Idaho Legislature since 2010. Now in my seventh term in the Senate, I serve as Chair of the State Affairs Committee, advancing conservative values—protecting the Second Amendment, promoting fiscal responsibility, supporting agriculture, and preserving Idaho’s freedoms.

Priorities

Jim Guthrie is committed to advancing policies that strengthen Idaho's communities, economy, and natural resources. Drawing from his background as a rancher, former school board trustee, and county commissioner, his priorities focus on preserving local autonomy, bolstering agriculture, enhancing education, and safeguarding water rights.

Strong Agriculture

As a second-generation rancher and former Chair of the Senate Agricultural Affairs Committee, Jim Guthrie works tirelessly to support Idaho's vital agriculture industry, which drives rural economies and feeds the nation.

  • Promoting policies that reduce regulatory burdens on farmers and ranchers, allowing them to thrive in a competitive market.

  • Advocating for investments in agricultural infrastructure, research, and innovation to enhance productivity and sustainability.

  • Defending rural communities against threats like excessive environmental restrictions, ensuring agriculture remains a cornerstone of Idaho's economy.

Local Control

Jim Guthrie champions the principle that local governments know their communities best and should have the authority to address their unique needs without undue state or federal interference.

  • Advocating for legislation that empowers cities and counties to make decisions on issues like land use, taxation, and public services, reflecting his experience as a Bannock County Commissioner.

  • Opposing federal overreach to protect Idaho's state rights and sovereignty, ensuring local voices are not drowned out by distant mandates.

  • Supporting balanced governance that limits unnecessary regulations while promoting collaboration between state and local entities for efficient problem-solving.

Strong Schools

With his roots in education as a former Marsh Valley School District Board Trustee, Jim Guthrie prioritizes robust funding and support for Idaho's schools to prepare the next generation for success.

  • Pushing for restored and increased education budgets to provide quality resources, competitive teacher salaries, and modern facilities.

  • Supporting initiatives that emphasize local school board authority and parental involvement in curriculum decisions.

  • Championing vocational and technical education programs to align schooling with Idaho's workforce needs, particularly in agriculture and rural trades.

Water Rights

Serving on the Senate Resources & Environment Committee, Jim Guthrie is a steadfast advocate for protecting Idaho's water resources, recognizing their critical role in agriculture, communities, and the state's future.

  • Defending senior water rights while promoting fair and sustainable management of aquifers, such as the Eastern Snake Plain, to prevent curtailments that harm farmers.

  • Supporting mitigation plans and negotiations, like those addressing recent groundwater challenges, to ensure reliable water access without economic disruption.

  • Advocating for infrastructure investments, including storage and conservation projects, to balance environmental needs with agricultural and municipal demands for long-term water security.
